"Why Sales doesn't fix everything"
Everywhere we look we see ads to help you grow your business, generate leads and do the big sales pitch, marketing activities, how to use social media and much more. Sales and marketing are key factors to making a business successful and leads won't fall out of the sky. However, a lot of people forget that this is not everything to make a business a win bringing project.
Our business started by having conversations and sharing our experiences in different businesses over the years and how things often don't go to plan, no matter how many sales and leads had been generated.
"Sales fixes everything" unfortunately is not quite true and business owners struggle to understand why their business isn't as successful as they wish for it to be. Even worse, when their business fails or gets into this downward spiral with no easy or no way out.
Our observations over the years became clearer and clearer on why businesses are more likely to fail. One of the main issues entrepreneurs have is that they have no structure or functioning Operations in place. They struggle with simple processes, cash flow management, and record-keeping. Their sales are through the roof and then they can't deliver what they sold or are not able to keep up paying bills. In fact, no or bad cash flow management is one of the most common reasons why businesses stop operating.
Entrepreneurs in many cases are Visionaries and have a great idea they want to turn into a business. They know exactly what this will look like and have the imagination. But have they got enough "Actionary" in them to make this a reality? We are going to be very blunt here because this is who we are, and won't sugar coat it - they don't.
Don't get this the wrong way. We can't be good at everything no matter how much we are trying or are learning and that is just how it is.
Our strength is in Operations and Delivery and this is what we are very good at. We solve problems, set up processes, turn the business upside down if needed to make it function. Not everything has to do with technology or bookkeeping or just being nerdy boring stuff. Part of the Operations and Delivery in a business has to do with hiring the right people, building culture, delivering exceptional customer service or simply just delivering the product or service in time.
We are not very good at Marketing and Sales and we have acknowledged that years ago but we can learn a few tips and tricks here to get around a few hurdles before we need to get someone into the business to take it to the next level. It is important to accept this but also to take the steps towards learning the things you are not good at to at least have a basic understanding of what is happening.
It takes a long time and a lot of research to find everything to get your business off the ground and making it a working engine. It is crucial to decide when it is better to get someone involved that has done this already and can tell you how to get your ideas put into action.
Good advice isn't free like most things in life but how much are you willing to invest in your business that could make a difference between success and failure? Is it important to spend a lot of money on advertising your business but struggle setting it up? Have you thought about what happens after you made all these sales? Or are you prepared when something unforeseen happens?
There are so many questions that can be answered very quickly - make Operations and Delivery part of your business setup before you start the selling! How? Well, invest in learning how to start your business on the right foot without wasting your precious time on weeks or months of research.
Our workshops provide the knowledge to take action beyond the ideas, and a clear understanding of the importance of Operations and Delivery.
